This version of KPT Bryce has been save-disabled and restricted in various ways to prevent software piracy. All front-end features of the commercially released product are supported here, enabling customers to evaluate and demonstrate this product effectively. It is not intended for resale. The retail version includes all features and functionality not available in this Demo version, plus a CD-ROM full of sample images and tutorial files, and a very large manual...! For inquiries regarding the retail version, please call HSC Software Corp. at (800) 472-9025.

  8. • Accelerated for Power Macintosh.
  9. • Command-Spacebar to hide palettes has been changed to Command-Tab.
  10. • Terrain Clipping Planes now also clipped in wireframe view.
  11. • Clipping plane preferences now saved in the Bryce scene document.
  12. • Terrain Editor default set to greyscale, and will remember previous state.
  13. • PICT Scrapbook 512x512 size limit removed. For large print images, this can be useful; however, be aware that you will need enough memory to hold your Pict, and in most cases a small Pict is all that's necessary for textures.
  14. • PICT Scrapbook will scale any sized alpha channel to the aspect ratio of the corresponding Pict.
  15. • Mac Button-tracking implemented.
  16. • Anomalies associated with long file names, and names with "." in them, have been fixed.
  17. • Symmetrical Tiling enabled.
  18. • Factory installed 3D Solid Texture list in Materials Editor alphabetized; first two are hard coded, followed by alphabetical list, followed by user saved textures.
  19. • Due to inherent constraints in the PICT file format, maximum file size is limited to 4092 pixels wide by 6144 pixels tall.
  20. • Selection threshold for two-dimensional objects adjusted to facilitate easier selecting and moving.
  21. • Haze settings can now be modulated by cloud plane height (optional).
  22. • Bryce now works correctly when working on monitors of two different bit depths.
  23. • Bryce 1.0.1 can read all files created by previous release version 1.0.
  24. • When resuming an interrupted anti-aliasing pass, Bryce will now find the precise point where it left off before resuming.

  26. TO INSTALL:  
  27. KPT Bryce™ 1.0.1 is a fat binary  application; this means it will perform appropriately on both Power Macintosh and non-Power Macintosh (68k) CPU's.

  29. To install KPT Bryce, first make sure any virus protection software is disabled, and:

  31. 1. Double-click on the “KPT Bryce™ Demo Version” icon. When the dialog box appear, select a destination folder for KPT Bryce.

  33. 2. Click on the “Extract” button.
  34.  
  35. When the installation is complete, you will find a folder called “KPT Bryce™ Folder” that contains the following files:

  38. KPT Bryce Hub
  39. KPT Bryce Presets
  40. Basic.shd

  42. These files must remain together in your KPT Bryce™ Folder. You may move the folder wherever you like.

  44. Also included in the folder, though not required for Bryce to function, are assorted KPT Bryce Pict Maps, Pict Textures, utilities, a sample scene, and the latest version of our popular slideshow utility, KPT Quickshow v1.2.2.

  46. Don't forget there is lots more on the CD-ROM; almost 400MB more of sample scene files, texture libraries, utilities and more. If you don't already have a CD-ROM drive, this could be a good reason to get one!

  48. FOR 68k MACINTOSH CPU's: KPT BRYCE REQUIRES A MATH COPROCESSOR (FPU).
  49. All images created with this software are generated with highly optimized raytracing technology; this kind of intense computation absolutely requires an FPU.

  51. KPT BRYCE REQUIRES TRUETYPE TIMES TYPEFACE FOR ACCURATE TEXT DISPLAY
  52. This typeface ships with your Apple™ system software. Be sure you keep this font loaded in your Fonts folder for optimal text display.

  54. TROUBLESHOOTING
  55. Text display in Render Palette and Sky&Fog Palette is out of place.
  56. • Be sure the TrueType Times font that ships with your Apple system software is installed in your Fonts folder in your System Folder.

  58. Elements from the interface are missing.
  59. • Make sure all four files listed above are present, uncompressed, together in the same folder.
